I am a former ballet dancer. I studied for my Bachelor of Arts (dance) at the VCA before changing course and gaining a BA in Writing and Literature from Deakin University. I combined the two skills and became the Editor of Dance Australia magazine, which has been my main profession. I was awarded a Churchill Fellowship in that capacity in 1998. It has been a career that has given me the privilege of being exposed to some of the most extraordinarily creative people – painters, designers, choreographers, musicians.

In the meantime I pursued my own studies in visual art. I studied painting with Walter Magilton at Stony Creek Studios in Warrandyte as well as undertook many short courses in collage, etching, portraiture and other media and methods at various institutions. I was a signatory member of the Australian Guild of Realist Artists (AGRA) for about eight years. I exhibited many times with AGRA and was twice selected for its Australian Art Excellence Award, an award for which I qualified by consistently being placed in the seasonal members’ exhibitions.
